Kayla gets a concussion and Ergan finally gets her. These true mates are getting the HEA they've always wanted.

'Ergan' is the fifth book in the Winter Valley Wolves series by V. Vaughn. It's also part of the multi-author Mating Season Collection of stand alone paranormal romances and I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review. Written in the first person and entirely from Kayla's point of view, something I don't usually like, I was so absorbed in the story I barely noticed. I loved it and couldn't put it down.

Kayla Hayward has come home to Winter Valley after finally managing to ditch the violent and controlling ex, Gary, a year ago, and is now teaching at Winter Valley High School. The former star of the Winter Valley Girl's Varsity Soccer Team is also coaching the current team and relaxing on her dock by the lake in the evening, listening to the wolves howl and making up romantic scenarios about werewolves. She also dreams of the guy she's had a crush on since she was a junior at the same high school and now sees every day, because now he's a teacher and coach there too.

Werewolf, History teacher and soccer coach Ergan Wakefield can't really believe his luck. He thought he'd lost her forever, but his true mate, Kayla Hayward, has finally come home after five years in Boston and he's determined not to lose her again, but he's sending some seriously mixed signals and she thinks he's not interested, then the ex turns up...

I'm not going to give any spoilers, but this terrific short story has everything you could want in a paranormal romance, including some really great characters, from the grouchy next door neighbour to the wonderful Wakefield family as well as humour, a minor mystery, a little action, steamy bits and the HEA we all expect. I loved it and I really can't wait for the next one.

I was given an ARC of Ergan from the author, in exchange for an honest review.

I couldn't wait to start this book, I'm ADDICTED to V. Vaughn's "Winter Valley Wolves" & was extremely happy to find out that it wasn't finished yet. Again I was quickly drawn into the story, entranced by what was happening inside, then BAM... it was finished, leaving me wanting more.

Kayla hasn't left Winter Valley since coming back for her 5 year reunion, infact she's found a job & plans to stay... Ergan has a second chance to be with his mate, but how to broach the subject??

I really did enjoy this installment, meeting new pack mates, reading new situations... just adds more to this series. Although you can read each installment as a stand-alone, I do recommend reading them in order.

Ergan is book 5 in V. Vaughn's "Winter Valley Wolves" series, which in turn is a part of the "Mating Season" pack series. A set of books from 6 authors, 6 different packs & an individuals story on finding their mate. I'm hoping that wasn't the last novella from V. Vaughn's "Winter Valley Wolves" I've really enjoyed what I've read so far & I can't wait to delve into the other authors work in the "Mating Season" series.

Q- Would you consider the audio edition of Ergan to be better than the print version?
A- I would have to say it would depend on my mood & what I was doing for the day, sometimes I feel like reading & others I feel like listening.... I enjoyed both versions equally.
Q- Who was your favorite character and why?
A- I would have to say my favourite character from Ergan, would be.... both Ergan & Kayla... Ergan because, even though he knows Kayla is his mate, he allows her to leave in the first place, but when she ends up staying in Winter Valley, he's there to protect her.
Kayla because, well she's sassy, know's what she wants, has a wicked imagination (even when her werewolf dream comes true)....
Q- Which character – as performed by Erin deWard – was your favorite?
A- Hmmm I think Kayla was my favourite performed character, Erin made her just come to life!
Q- Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
A- There was this scene that occured out on the lake, in a boat..... it was very intense, fan worthy!
Q- Any additional comments?
A- I really love this series, to be able to listen to this book has brought out bits that I missed whilst reading. I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series. I love the extra emotion added when listening.

And here we have book #5 and I just finished� book #6.. Ms. Vaughn has written each book so it can stand alone, which is a great read because each one is a different HEA.��
Kayla Hayward comes back to Winter Valley for her 5th reunion and doesn't go back home. Instead she becomes the soccer coach at the high school, where she lives in her parents summer cabin by the lake. Everyone tells her don't go out at night the Wolves will eat you, but really all they do is hide and howl. All she can think about is her amazing kiss on grad night with Ergan 5 years ago. She'll never forget it, it was Magic!!!
Ergan Wakefield is the high school coach. He loves his job but when he sees Kayla again he can't stop looking at her, thinking about her. And boy does he remember that kiss. He has to stay away from her, it was to dangerous to be with her. She's human and he is a wolf. I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful review.

Great story, great chemistry.

I always get a bit excited when I see a new release from Siera Maley, she's one of the few people out there writing consistently good YA stories for bisexual and lesbian readers. This one is no exception.

Kayla and Riley have pretty terrific chemistry, though the story is not a straight out romance - friendship is at its core, what it feels like to be a third wheel when your best friends get together, and then what it feels like to make someone else the third wheel later on. As per usual the dialogue is tight, the scenario is interesting, the story moves along well and it's one of those books you end up reading in a few sittings, keen to get to the end.

I appreciated reading a novel in this genre that was comfortable depicting a bisexual (or maybe fluid) main character. We get a lot of them on TV but not so much in books, for some reason. I found Kayla very relatable, personally.

On the Outside is all about a trio of friends: Kayla, Riley, and Evan. They've been friends since first grade, and before starting high school promised to stay best friends no matter what. It's been hard, but they've managed to stay friends, although not quite as close. Most of this is because Kayla has a boyfriend, but as soon as they break up, Riley and Evan start dating making things even more awkward. More awkward still would be Kayla realizing that she's jealous because she likes Riley too!

I loved the On the Outside had a very strong focus on friendship. It's all from Kayla's POV, so we get to see how awkward things feel to her as she watches her two best friends snuggle up together, then go out without her. Of course, we also get her struggling with her sexuality. Realizing that she likes girls (or at least just Riley) really throws Kayla off. She doesn't know if she's really gay, but she does still like boys, so is she bi? Is she allowed to label herself as bi if she isn't sure, or if Riley is the only girl that she likes? I really liked seeing this, because those are exactly the kind of thoughts that lead to bi-erasure. There is not quota of same-sex people you need to like to be bisexual. If you feel like you are, then you are. It was nice seeing Kayla come to terms with that at the end.

The one thing (or maybe two) that kept me from enjoying On the Outside more was that it ends pretty suddenly. I've noticed with other books by this author, that she rushes the endings. Normally it's just skimming over some final details, but in this case, I felt like everything was building, building, building and then just ended. Even just an epilogue could have taken care of that. I wanted to see how Riley and Kayla being together affected their friendship dynamic, because we got to see that with Riley and Evan. I also just wanted to see Riley and Kayla together, period. There isn't much of that at all, once the truth is out.

I definitely still really liked On the Outside. It's a very quick read, which I finished in one sitting. I love stories of friendship as well as friends-to-lover Romances, so this was certainly going to be a hit for me anyway. I was just disappointed with how everything was resolved.

I've read ever book by this author and she has yet to disappoint. This book is lighthearted and an easy read, but at the same time is able to touch base with the feels effortlessly. It's the type of book that you can read straight through, leaving you with a content warmth in your stomach and a smile on your face.

A good cookbook and an affectionate memoir

People expecting a conventional cookbook may be put off by how much of it is dedicated to the author's family history. Although the Caribbean is closer to the US, Jonathan Phang is much better known in the UK, where he grew up and lives. But as he explains, "Guyanese people are made up of the six races of the Caribbean: East Indian, Chinese, Mixed European (Creole, mostly British and Portuguese), African, North American, and indigenous Amerindian." Understanding that "between them, my parents' blood represented all of these six races" is crucial to understanding a recipe that combines soy sauce, worchestershire, ketchup, yellow mustard, dark rum, habaneros, and lime. And growing up in England as he did, where he encountered "bland, badly cooked food away from home," you appreciate his fierce attachment to the "aromatic and spicy" food his parents brought with them.

All this would only be of historical or sociological interest if the recipes themselves were disappointing, but I have yet to try anything from the book that is less than delicious. If you're after Caribbean food that's scorchingly hot, you won't find it here. For me, his recipes are a perfect balance between the hot chilies of the Caribbean, the richness of ingredients like coconut milk, the refreshing bite of lime juice and cilantro, and a blend of spices and seasonings from the cultures that came together in Guyana.
